My first child, ErikaLeigh, less than one day old. |
I was married on May 19, 1990 at 34 years of age having practiced
abstinence until marriage. I practiced what pro-lifers preach. Continuing to practice a
pro-life lifestyle, we conceived our first child six weeks into our marriage. Just before
our 1998 primary, I expect to be holding our fourth child. There has been a renewed
level of disgust with abortion as Congress has attempted to ban the partial birth
abortion. As the 12th district representative, I will stand with those who want to see
this gruesome procedure outlawed.
We lament the fact that we are approaching 40 million abortions since Roe v. Wade.
However, most people are unaware that this figure is for surgical abortions only. If we
add chemical abortions, the figure is around 250 million, about one dead baby for every
man, woman, and child in the United States. We have been trapped into thinking that birth
control means contraception. By definition, it does not. I will propose that congress
require birth control manufactures to clearly label their products as contraceptives,
meaning working before fertilization, or abortifacients, or both. The Supreme Court has
allowed abortion on demand but we are still not required to abort our children. The choice
of whether or not to use contraception is matter that belongs in the homes and churches of
our land and not in government. However, if we choose to use contraception, we should not
be given a camouflaged abortifacent by calling it birth control. These abortifacients
include the IUD, Norplant, Depo-Provera, and the pill. |
